Biochemical Responses to a 28-day Interval between Exposures to Air at 6.7 Ata

چکیده
This study concerns an evaluation of the possible effects of repetitive divingand long-term effects of compression/decompression on distribution of, or loss of minerals, electrolytes, and protein metabolites in men subjected to standard Navy diving procedures. Urinary minerals, electrolytes, nitrogen metabolites and steroids, as well as serum minerals and electrolytes, were measured in Navy divers following short exposures to air at 6.7 ATA. A comparison was made between two similar dives performed 28 days apart. Increased fluid intake apparently prevented the reduction in urinary output, with its concomitant decreases in mineral and nitrogen metabolite excretion, that had been previously observed during the first post-dive day. Urinary ketosteroid excretion was slightly reduced after the first dive and decreased significantly for up to 10 days following the second hyperbaric exposure. This observation suggests prolonged adrenal responses to the stresses of compression/decompression. Although serum ionized and total calcium, and magnesium levels showed considerable variability in this diving protocol, no consistent pattern of intraor inter-dive variability was observed. These and other serum parameters measured indicate little or no carryover from the first to the second dive series performed 28 days later. Effects of cigarette smoking on tissue gas exchange during hyperbaric exposures.
OBJECTIVES In this study we investigate whether differences exist in human skeletal muscle (MM) and subcutaneous (SC) tissue gas tensions between chronic cigarette smokers and non-smokers measured under room air and hyperbaric conditions. METHODS Gas tensions in resting MM and SC tissues were recorded using a mass spectrometer at four-minute intervals during two and one-half to three-hour per...

Salinity is one of the main obstacles to the successful production of agricultural products. Hormonal compounds such as salicylic acid (SA) as plant growth regulators can have different physiological and biochemical effects in plants under salt stress. In present research, the effects of different concentrations of sodium chloride (2, 6 and 10 dS/m) and foliar application of SA (0, 0.25 and ...
متن کاملEffect of early cold exposure on the endocrine responses of broiler chickens and the incidence of ascites syndrome.
Two hundred and fifty day-old broiler chickens were housed in a high altitude farm and divided in two experimental groups (cold-exposed and control). At the age of 3 and 4 d, the cold-exposed chickens were exposed to 15?C for 3 h, while the control birds were reared under normal condition. During the period between 14 and 28 days, both groups of chickens were exposed to a low environmental temp...
متن کاملWhether regular working hours can minimize the blood biochemical effects of shift working: a cross-sectional study in Iran
Abstract Background: Irregular Working hours, including night work and shift work, have been found to be associated with alteration in various levels of biochemical factors. And some studies have showed association between shift work and blood biochemical disturbances in blood. In this epidemiological study we investigated, whether regular schedule of working hours can minimize the associ...
متن کاملEffect of salinity on some physiological and biochemical responses in the cyanobacterium Synechococcus elongatus
In this study, some physiological and biochemical responses of Synechococcus elongatus to salt stress were investigated. The cyanobactrium was grown in BG-11 medium under different concentrations of NaCl (0, 0.5, 1 M). The results indicated that the growth of S. elongatus was significantly inhibited under salt stress on days 5, 9 and 12. Protein content increased in S. elongatus on day 12 in pr...
